Social Skills Groups / Recreation Groups Ages 3-14

Group sessions will identify each child’s basic skill level and teach social skills through a variety of learning methods including: role play, discussion, interactive games, snack time and problem solving tasks. Because we believe that people learn better by doing, we will be incorporating community outings into the lessons… giving the kids the chance to practice their new skills!!

Specific Topics and Key Elements:

  • Eye contact
  • Facial expressions, gestures, and postures
  • Appearance
  • Listening
  • Formal vs informal relationships
  • Feelings
  • Initiating and maintaining relationships
  • Proximity and touch
To Promote Success
  • Your child must be able to commit to all 12 sessions
  • You and your child must commit to participating in homework assignments.
    (15-20 minutes each session)
  • Parents must commit to attending the community outings.
  • Child to adult ratios will be kept small, and facilitation will be provided by trained occupational therapists.



Transition Groups Ages 14+

These group sessions are designed for the older child to develop:

  • appearance
  • eye contact/body language
  • socially appropriate behavior in variety of settings.
  • conversational skills
  • exploration of employment opportunities & requirements
life skills
  • Personal care/hygiene
  • Money management
  • Phone etiquette
  • Health & nutrition
Groups will be composed of children with similar goals and of the same age group.
