Meet The Therapist
Meet Kim Read, OTR/L who is spending an increasing amount
of time in the Santa Clarita Valley in school and is helping
to provide stability in the new clinic site in Santa Clarita!
Kim comes to us with a wealth of experience, having worked
for over 10 years as an occupational therapist with a wide
range of clients.
How did you find out about occupational therapy?
Accidentally, in England. I discovered it in a newspaper
after I completed my Human Movement Studies degree and was
clueless about what to do with the rest of my life.
Why did you become an occupational therapist?
I was impressed with the variety of job fields and the possibility
of international travel.
Why are you still an occupational therapist?
I still find it a very rewarding, forever changing, and always
challenging career. I like the educational and job change
opportunities.
Why did you specialize in pediatrics?
I always wanted to work in this field, especially with
adolescents. Two and a half years ago I was lucky enough to
start working exclusively with children and found I really
liked pediatric occupational therapy.
What are some of your specific interests within pediatric
occupational therapy?
I’m interested in exploring auditory integration or
listening therapy. I’m also interested in adolescent
intervention as well as enhancing my evaluation and treatment
techniques. I enjoy providing educational presentations also.
What do you enjoy about your job now and how do you feel
your work is worthwhile?
I enjoy the people that I work with, the variety and types
of intervention, and I enjoy the autonomy that I have. My
work is worthwhile because of the success that I notice with
some children, and the positive feedback I receive from parents
and teachers.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I like to exercise, especially yoga, power walking, and
weight training. I also love to travel.
